Meet The Artist: Jessica Farrand

Jessica Farrand is an artist and tattooer. She is currently living and tattooing in her hometown of Rochester, New York with her husband, a ShihTzu named Tilly, a Chihuahua named Layla, and two cats named Benji and Floppa.

Jess has always loved creating art but originally went to school for and worked in the veterinary field as a vet tech before she burnt out and decided to find a new career path that best suited her. She became inspired to find a career where she could not only focus more on her artwork and be able to travel the world while sharing her passion and love for art, but to also be able to turn her passion into purpose and find a career that would allow her to uplift and empower those she worked with. Jess began tattooing in October of 2017 and can’t imagine working any other job! She feels so lucky and grateful for her career in tattooing and appreciates the connections she’s made with her clients and other artists over the years.

Jess’s style is constantly expanding and her main focus in tattooing since the beginning has been primarily bold blackwork ornamental designs inspired by Indian paisley/mehndi henna designs, folk art florals, textiles and patterns of various cultures and vintage architectural designs and motifs.

Jess aspires to work on more bold and decorative large scale projects that can develop and evolve organically over time. When working on larger projects, her consultation process relies on open-mindedness and a shared vision between her and her client. With every new and existing tattoo project, Jess always strives to create the best possible experience for her client by going above and beyond. The tattoo process is a very personal experience shared between both artist and client and Jess believes open communication and trust are key.

Jess is passionate about sustainability in her career and lifestyle. She is constantly striving to find new ways to decrease her carbon footprint and to inspire others to do the same. With this passion, Jess plans to continue to discover and use more environmentally friendly supplies that will ultimately allow her to produce less waste as a tattoo artist. Outside of tattooing, Jess is passionate about living her best life and inspiring others to live theirs. On her days off from tattooing, you can find her tending to her gardens and house plants, planning her next trip to Hawaii, hitting the road with her camper named Travel Betty, going for hikes, still learning how to skateboard and surf, bird watching, spending time with her loved ones, creating in other mediums of art, collecting tattoos from other inspiring artists, or relaxing with a good fantasy book, a cup of tea and her fur babies cuddled up in her lap.
